Star of the Sea School
WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS
June 1, 2009

Dear Parents and Students,

Another year seems to have rushed by so quickly! I wish I had the words to truly express my gratitude to all who make Star of the Sea School such an incredible place to live work, play, and pray. I have borrowed the following from Patricia Dougherty (probably a Catholic School girl) and want to share it with you:

A PRAYER FOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
By Patricia Dougherty

’Thank you, God, for people at our school who give of themselves and paint a tapestry of love and generosity that reaches far into unseen places. Blessed be their gentle spirits.

Thank you, God, for teachers whose dedication is unsurpassed, whose lights burn long into the night, whose faces are pale from tiredness, who stretch themselves past comprehension. Blessed be their sense of mission.

Thank you, dear God, for sisters who are compassionate and kind, whose calm steady service speaks profoundly and eloquently to the people in the community and far beyond. Blessed be their simple vows in a complex world.

Thank you, Father, for priests who listened to your call and chose to love and re-love again the flock that sometimes chooses to go in every direction but the same one. Blessed be their tenacious grip on the vision of your kingdom that is to come.

Thank you, God, for students whose smiles and curiosity are the spark by which we measure our days, whose lives are the foundation for your church in the future. Blessed be their eagerness in all things that they do, for it is that spirit that will carry us on.

Thank you, God, for cooks and janitors who work hardest in the quiet hours of the day, whose knowledge and skills are legion, proclaimed by the easy running of things. Blessed be their multitude of skills.

Thank you, dear God, for secretaries who somehow get things done, for they are the glue that binds operations, plans, and visions. Vastly competent, always patient, and sometimes confessors and confidants. Blessed be these architects, for they are the builders of what is to be done.

Thank you, God, for people who volunteer, whose willingness surfaces during our greatest times of need and whose presence enables many tasks to see the light of completion. Blessed be their consistent efforts, for they smooth that way.

Thank you, Jesus, for parents who bring us the gift of themselves, ever present in the liveliness of their children. They are the warp and weave in the fabric by which we bind ourselves to tradition. Blessed be these instruments of artistry that breathe the breath of life into our school and parish, for they are the givers of life.’

Sincerely,
